FTTH 8 Core Fiber Optic Distribution Box ODF

A mini Fiber Distribution Box (FDB/ODF) used at the final stage of a fiber network to terminate and distribute fiber connections to a small number of subscribers.

Key Functions

  • Fiber termination – connects incoming feeder fiber
  • Splicing – secures fiber joints inside the box
  • Distribution – delivers signal to up to 8 users
  • Protection – protects fibers from dust, water, and damage

Main Features

  • Supports up to 8 fiber cores (8 ports/users)
  • Compatible with SC/LC adapters
  • Can accommodate a PLC splitter (1:4 or 1:8)
  • Includes:
    • Splice tray
    • Adapter panel
    • Cable routing guides
  • Compact and lightweight design

Typical Specifications

  • Capacity: 8 ports (cores)
  • Material: ABS/PC plastic (outdoor) or metal (indoor)
  • Protection rating: IP55 – IP65 (weatherproof)
  • Mounting: Wall-mounted or pole-mounted
  • Cable ports:
    • 1–2 input ports (feeder cable)
    • Up to 8 output ports (drop cables)

Where it’s used

  • Individual homes or villas
  • Small shops or offices
  • Rural or low-density areas
  • Temporary or pilot FTTH deployments

How it works (simple flow)

  1. Feeder fiber enters the box
  2. Fibers are spliced and organized
  3. Signal may go through a 1:4 or 1:8 splitter
  4. Output fibers connect to up to 8 users

Advantages

  • Lowest cost option for FTTH distribution
  • Very easy to install and maintain
  • Ideal for starting small deployments
  • Minimizes unused capacity

Difference from other sizes

  • 8-core → very small setups (≤8 users)
  • 12/16-core → small clusters
  • 24/32-core → larger distribution nodes

When to use it

Choose an 8-core ODF if:

  • You’re serving very few users (≤8)
  • You’re deploying in rural or scattered locations
  • You want a micro-distribution point close to customers

Practical ISP Tip

For a startup ISP:

  • Use 8-core boxes for isolated customers or small clusters
  • Combine with a 1:8 splitter for full utilization
  • As demand grows, upgrade to 16 or 24-core boxes for better scalability
